Mon#

This is a lightweight TTRPG rule set for a Pokemon inspired one-shot or short campaign (~a handful of sessions). 

Players take on the roles of Trainers and their Monsters as they go on typical(?) adventures together. Or play as grunts of a villenous organization as they try to steal Mons from never aging children and the likes. 

The intended tone is light and fun, kinda beer and pretzels. The goal was to make a fun, flexible and light system with just enough mechanical support to not burden all the battle stuff on the narrative while making it easy and fast to create unique Mons and Trainers  on the fly without preparing and balancing tons of statblocks.

The intended amount of Mons per player is between 2 and 3. The intended battle style is: each player calls out one of their Mons, opposing Trainers use multiple Mons if needed. It handles everything one-action-a-turn in classic initiative order but can also be played with popcorn/spotlight initiative. 

The core resolution is a simple 1d6+Tags system, somewhere between Gumshoe/Swords of the Serpentine (1d6, spend from pool) and Otherscape/City of Mist (Tags and status conditions). Mons in battle have 4 additional stats they can add and Trainers, as well as Mons can spend ressources to increase their chances and rolls.

Trainers and Mons both level up moderately quickly and gain new Tags or improve their stats. As expected of the genre, the power of friedship and cuteness makes your Mons also stronger over time.
